EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

European leaders including the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions targeted individuals who have been central to campaigns to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives supported the French president in condemning the decision.
